Daddy’s Little Hellions, Hail!!!

A ‘Dungeons and Dragons Online’ (DDO) Guild founded on the Orien Server

Good day brave and adventurous guild mates! It’s a great day to kick in the doors, slay the wicked, and loot the bodies! I have put this quick site together in an effort to help communicate some of what I’ve learned.

Perhaps it will help you. Perhaps it won’t. But in either way, here it is!

First things first: Bookmark DDO Wiki as soon as you can!!

Hirelings

Up front notes about hirelings. They’re worth it, totally, if you like to solo. They’re worth it, marginally, if you like to group up, since not all groups can get all the player needed to fill out a party. I’m going to discuss the standard in-game-purchase-from-vendor hirelings. Now a few notes:

  • Hirelings (non Gold Seal) need to be summoned at the entry to each non-public area.
  • Hirelings start out being in “defensive” mode. If you expect your hireling to engage and tank for you, or heal you or fight for you effectively on their own, be sure to set this.
  • Hirelings (non Gold Seal) last for an hour. This means if you do multiple short quests, they will persist in your backpack with a countdown timer while you’re in a public area.
  • If you are in a dungeon for longer than an hour, or past the timer expiration, the hireling will stay with you until you leave the non-public area.
  • If you die, your hireling can pick up your soul stone and then follow you to a resurrection shrine. To do this, right click on your soul stone, then click the ‘gears’ on the hireling bar. Your hireling will follow your shadow when you move away, but go slow so you don’t loose them.

Starting Out

Most adventurers, playing for the first time, will start out on Korthos Island. Here are some tips for surviving the initial few levels.

  1. Do Heyton’s Rest and The Storehouse’s Secret in the village on the Normal level to earn quick platinum and familiarize yourself with your character.
  2. Visit the Hireling Vendor in the courtyard of Korthos Village.
    • If you aren’t a healing type class character, grab a cleric.
    • If you’re a healing type, grab the barbarian or the fighter.
  3. Repeat all of the in-town quests in Korthos Village gradually increasing the difficulty from Normal -> Hard -> Elite.
This will net you the best XP and the best patron rep (explained later).
  4. Once you have done the Collaborator quest, you’ll get quests that are outside of the village gates. Again, repeat these from Normal -> Hard -> Elite, even Misery’s Peak (also called the Dragon Quest).

Now, brave adventurer, you’re ready to head on to Stormreach!!

Your First Steps in Stormreach

  1. Once on the dock in the Harbor of Stormreach, talk to Baudry Cartamon (accept but do not do the quest), Fitzpat the Fence (accept but do not do the quest), and Felix d’Cannith to grab a starter set of bags to collect things in.
  2. Navigate through the Marketplace to The Twelve. In The Twelve Tower, talk to Jeanselme Brucetius and get another bag.
SUGGESTION: While you’re in The Twelve Enclave, talk to the sprit binder found in the camp by the airship access point. Setting your bind point here will allow you to board the airship easily, where you have a tavern, bank, hireling vendor, etc etc etc and recover.
  3. Head back to the Marketplace, and onward to the Harbor.
  4. When you emerge back into the Harbor, open the map and find the anchor icon. Visit the Guild Airship and once on the ship, click on the Amenities Bar on the deck to receive all of the guild buffs currently available.
  5. Before you leave the ship, be sure to tour the decks and see what’s where to familiarize yourself.
  6. To leave the airship, speak with the Captain to get back to the Harbor.
  7. Head back down to where you found Baudry Cartamon and now start the quest chains!
  8. As on Korthos Island, repeat quest sets from Normal -> Hard -> Elite and then move on.

Common Questions

  • Should I sell these gems?
Most gems are only valuable when sold and converted to platinum. When in the interface with a vendor there is a “Sell Gems” button that will divest you of the unneeded items.
  • Why can I not sell or loot?
Free to Play (F2P) players have a maximum platinum cap. If you are at or near this cap, you won’t be able to sell, or loot more coins.
  • What does this button do?
Please do not press that button again.

Recommendations

Now, here are some brain smatterings that I will couch as recommendations or suggestions:

  • Grind Rep with the Coin Lords until you get to the rank of Reliable. At this point you’ll get a fourth backpack slot.
  • Grind Rep with the House Kundarak until you get to the rank of Noted. At this point you’ll get a second personal bank slot and a platinum bonus.
  • If you are a Rogue or Artificer, grind rep with The Free Agents to the rank of Well-Known, and then Famous. At each level you can buy some nice thievery tools to help with picking locks and disabling devices.
  • Once you get to Level 6, with your competent hireling at the ready, head to House Jorasco and start the Delera’s Tomb Quest Series. The end of this quest series will award you many good rewards, and most notably Voice of the Master which will give you a 5% experience bonus going forward, which will help levelling up.
NOTE: This is NOT a Free to Play series, so you’ll need some turbine points to buy it. Sorry!

Request from the Guild Leader

I don’t want to ever mandate any tithing, or any participation in the guild other that just ‘Have Fun’ and ‘Help Everyone’. The being said, increasing the airship amenities isn’t free, and if we all pull together we can move forward faster and increase the airship’s benefits for all of us.

If you want to donate platinum or astral shards, you can do that at the Airship Showroom which is next to the Guild Airship portal in the Harbor.

You don’t need to tell me if you donate, and there is no minimum and certainly no maximum (GRIN)
